I recently went through the long and winding road of re-registering a Peugeot 406 I bought at auction in 2024, and I can tell you – the process demands patience, precision, and persistence.
Why Re-registration Is Important
Ex-GK vehicles are typically decommissioned from government service and sold via public auctions. Once purchased, the vehicles must be re-registered into private ownership, complete with a new number plate and civilian logbook. It’s not just a formality — it’s a legal requirement for road use.
Here’s what NTSA and other agencies typically require:
Required Documents for Re-registration
- Original logbook issued by the vendor
- Official search/records from NTSA
- Advertisement of the sale (local newspaper, Kenya Gazette, or public portal)
- Approved lot listing of the auction vehicle
- Letter of offer for the unit
- Letter of notification of award of the tender
- Payment receipts for the sale
- Release letter or gate pass from vendor
- Fully filled Transfer Form C
- Inspection by the National Police Service (especially if modified/facelifted)
- Current customs entry and duty payment receipts
- Re-registration inspection approval by NTSA
- Submission of documents to NTSA for number plate allocation and new logbook
