What I Saw at Ruaraka Will Shock You: My Honest Take on the KPLC Auction Yard

By Patrick Mutuma – CEO, PAMURICK Consult Ltd
During my visit to the KPLC Transport Depot in Ruaraka — the main viewing site for this year’s massive vehicle and asset disposal — I was met with a mix of surprise and disappointment. While the auction is being hyped as a rare opportunity, what I found on the ground painted a different picture.
Many of the vehicles on display, particularly the Toyota Hilux, Terrios and utility trucks, appeared to have been involved in accidents. Some had visibly damaged frames or poorly repaired bodywork. Even the motorcycles, especially the Yamaha DT 125 models, had key parts missing — from side mirrors and exhausts to gear levers and lights. What raised even more concern was how the reserve prices did not reflect the actual condition of the units. In most cases, the starting bids were quite high for vehicles that clearly needed major repairs before they could be roadworthy again.
Another frustration was the limited viewing hours — strictly from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. This short window makes it hard for interested buyers traveling from outside Nairobi to get a proper look at the assets before bidding.
I took several images while at the yard and compiled a detailed video on my YouTube channel where I break down individual vehicles, show their current condition, and reveal the reserve prices. If you’re serious about participating in this auction, I highly recommend you watch it first to avoid surprises.
